PERU LOCATION: Studying Spanish and volunteering in Cusco, Peru is an unforgettable experience. Cusco is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the world, situated at 3400m (11,217ft) above sea level. Due to its rich indigenous culture, it is known as the capital of the Inca Empire. In 1985, UNESCO declared Cusco a “Cultural Heritage of Humanity” for having a cultural infrastructure that has been well preserved for hundreds of years. Popular cultural sites include the ruins found at Saqsayhuaman, the Sacred Valley and Tipon, as well as various Incan museums and the main cathedral. Not only does the city contain its own Incan ruins, but is also the most convenient vantage points for treks and trips to Machu Picchu, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
Our school is located in the San Blas district of Cusco, a beautiful area characterized by shops, art museums, and numerous restaurants and bars. The San Blas Square, where you can find coffee shops, local artisans, and a relaxed atmosphere, is a mere minute walk from school. Our school´s location also affords easy access (about a five minute walk) to the main square, the Plaza de Armas. Along the path towards the center, you will be exposed to the remaining original Incan architecture such as the famous dodecagonal stone. The Plaza de Armas is the perfect meeting place for people of all different countries as well as the ideal place to taste the delicious Peruvian gastronomy at some of the most famous restaurants in Cusco city. Cusco´s nightlife is also centered within the main Plaza. There you can find various nightclubs offering free salsa classes as well as exotic Peruvian alcoholic drinks. Come experience all that Cusco, Peru has to offer!
